There are two methods to
install Kurlo on your portable device.
If Kurlo is NOT
already installed on your computer or you are using someone else's
computer:
-
Download Kurlo and install it directly
to your portable device. It is recommended NOT to create a
Start Menu Folder or Desktop and Quick Launch Icons for the
Windows computer unless you plan on using these items to access
the copy Kurlo installed on your portable device.
If Kurlo
is already installed on your Windows computer:
Copy the installation
directory, C:\Program Files\Kurlo by default, to your
portable device. Note: This will also copy all of your Kurlo
data to your portable device.

You run Kurlo the same way
on your portable device as you would on a Windows computer. Go to
the installation directory of Kurlo on your portable device and double click the Kurlo executable*.
*This method
requires that Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.4 or higher is installed on the Windows computer

How to copy Kurlo data to and from your portable device
top
Your Kurlo data (users,
contacts, preferences, address lists, etc) can quickly and easily
be copied from your portable device to your Windows computer
and vice versa.
source device =
device you want to copy Kurlo data from
destination device = device you want to copy Kurlo data
to
Note: The source device or destination device
will either be your Windows computer or your portable device.
To copy data for a
specific Kurlo user from your source device to your
destination device:
- Run Kurlo on your
source device
- Make sure you are
logged in as the Kurlo user whose data you want to copy
- Create a User Backup

- Run Kurlo on your
destination device
- Install the UBF you

Warning: Use the below method of copying
data with caution if there are multiple Kurlo users on the source
device
or destination device as the Kurlo data on the source
device will replace all Kurlo data on the destination device.

files (previously copied from your source device) to the "classes"
directory
Troubleshooting: Windows computer without JRE 1.4 or higher
top
Below are instructions
on how to run Kurlo from your portable device that is plugged into a
Windows computer that either doesn't have the appropriate JRE or
doesn't a JRE installed at all.
First, you must prepare
your portable device. You will only need to do this once.
To prepare your
portable device:
- On a Windows
computer copy the JRE directory to your portable device.
Note: The default installation directory for JRE 1.5 is
C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0
- Create the batch
file (.bat) that will be used to launch Kurlo using the JRE you
copied to your portable device.
To create the batch file:
1. Open notepad or the text editor of your choice
2. Type without quotes: "\jre_directory\bin\java
-jar classes\kurlo.jar" where jre_directory is the
name of the directory you copied to your portable device in step
1.
3. Save the file as "kurlo.bat" to the installation directory of Kurlo
on your portable device. IMPORTANT:
Include the quotes when saving the batch file.
That's it! Double click
the batch file you just created to run Kurlo.
Note:
When you run Kurlo this way the splash screen will not display and
the command prompt will open and will remain open until you exit Kurlo. Do not close the command prompt as this will
cause Kurlo to shutdown improperly possibly resulting in a loss of
data.
